London, baby! (part two)

The day of our departure

In the Stansted ExpressThe day of our departure was a busy one. After packing the few things I took along (I travelled extremely light), I left for Utrecht. There was a symposium there about teaching "gifted" children and I was invited to be part of an expert panel on the subject. We never used those terms in school but apparently I was considered gifted. Okay then. After the symposium I had to get back to Nijmegen and take the bus from there to Luiz'. We would have a quick dinner there and Luiz' mother would drop us of at the airport. There were no lines at the airport so checking in was over soon enough and the security checks were swift as well. The immigration officer at the airport, however, took his time to scrutinise my looks to see whether my passport was really mine. Maybe biometric passports will make things easier in the future. At least a computer is faster than a suspicious German.

Traveling through London

A drink or twoWhen we arrived in London, we still had to find our beds somewhere near Queensway station. We first took the rather expensive Stansted Express to Liverpool St. station and we would continue our way by London's famous underground. Unfortunately, the station where we had to get out closed in the late evening which meant that we had to get out in unfamiliar terrain. Relying on our manly sense of direction and even more manly reluctance to ask for directions, we made it to the hostel without significant delay. Once again men all over the world could rejoice in the fact that two guys have found their destination without asking for help. <insert manly grunt here />
Because the pubs were already closed, we headed straight to our room for a well deserved drink. Okay, maybe more than one. But what the hell, we were on vacation in LONDON, BABY!
