Weblog of a Lemmus
Not only ABBA talks about money. Significant parts of our lives are devoted to the influx and efflux of this not too smelly commodity. Utrecht even has a museum about it. I'm not ashamed to say that I like money so I visited the Geldmuseum with my friend Bas recently. It was not so much a collection of coins and banknotes as it was an exposition largely devoted at the evolution of money. Of course, money is influenced by culture and it influences culture as well. For instance, Islamic banking has become a matter of debate lately. There were also numerous works of art made with bank notes and such. Some were quite witty, but most were altogether unimpressive. Like in most modern educational museums, a large part of the content is interactive. I guess it makes the museum more interesting for kids. Unfortunately, that made it quite clear that I was not part of the intended audience. It almost made me feel quite old ;)
After our museum visit, Bas and I went to town to enjoy the lovely weather with drinks and a light lunch. Because of the rainy conditions I try to enjoy every dry day to the fullest. It's silly really; if we had a brilliant, hot summer I would have enjoyed it much less.
Last Saturday the wait was over. It had finally arrived: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I ordered it online ages ago. Finally we would know how the story ends. Would You-Know-Who be defeated? Will Harry survive? Will Luna finally find the crumple-horned snorkack? Will Draco finally come out of the closet? I already know the answers, but I do not want to spoil it for you. I finished the book only yesterday because Myrna and I had to share the book. I must say, the ending is really cool.
The Mrs. and I went to see the latest Potter movie on Saturday as well. We went to the matinee so I wouldn't be to busy at the cinema. It turned that the tickets were half price too. Definitly a win-win situation. We should do this more often.
With all this magical entertainment this week, I'm at a loss about what I should do tonight. Myrna is down south so I have the house all to myself. No wild partying though, work was pretty stressful this week so I reckon a good night's sleep will be the wise choice.
I have been playing scientist for two years now with very little to show for it. My list of publications was never very impressive. Fortunately, there was a recent improvement in my stats. I admit, it's only a letter and our results are not very explicit. On the other hand, it's a letter in Science and that makes all the difference.
I'm currently working on something more substantial (our current publication was more or less a proof of concept). To bad I'm suffering from a serious case of writers block. Lots of graphs to make and text to write. Somehow it just doesn't go from my mind to my keyboard.
